Today Elon Musk revealed on Twitter that he has made an offer to purchase Twitter outright. He offered $54.20 per share. The current share price as I’m writing this is $46.14. His stated goal is to privatize twitter and restore free speech to the platform. A great goal as far as I am concerned, but should we trust him?
Both sides of the culture war are freaking out about this. The liberty minded are excited by the prospect. This is no doubt a good thing if he follows through and if the board and management of twitter agree to it.
Dave Rubin made this statement.
That’s a pretty bold statement (as if he has the authority to make such declarations but that’s another discussion) especially when all we have is an offer. I’m not trying to single out Dave. I’m not trying to chastise the right. This is significant and very interesting, but lets hold our horses for a bit. Elon might be playing games to raise the stock price so that he makes tons of money like he did with Bitcoin last year. Also, we don’t know if the people who will be deciding the fate of twitter at this point are going to take the deal. They might just be the stark raving lunatic ideologues they present themselves to be. The almighty dollar might not be as almighty as we think.
Granted, if they don’t take the deal Elon can just dump his stock for cheap and tank the stock’s price altogether. Would that hurt Twitter? For sure. Would it be a deathblow? No. Investors will flock to buy the stock for cheap and hold it until the price goes back up which it most likely will eventually.
The other side of this discussion is would a privatized, Musk controlled Twitter be the best solution for the free speech problem. I tend to believe as most on my side do, that it would be far better than it is now, but is it the best? No. A Musk controlled Twitter is still a centralized Twitter. Decentralization is the only way to real Liberty from a political perspective. Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone is the only way to ultimate Liberty (email us if you don’t know what I’m talking about and want to) but political liberty requires decentralization. That was exactly the goal of the founding fathers in setting up our government and we can take that work further. Especially with today’s technology. I would like to see Elon take over the company, work to tie it to bitcoin or ethereum, and let it be truly free, controlled by no one and available to everyone. The public square.
That all being said, I’m happy to take what I can get. Every step towards freedom is a good step. I’m not counting my chickens before they’ve hatched, however. The offer is not a free twitter. It’s merely the possibility, but in the spirit of taking what we can get, I will offer you what we have. What we have post offer and pre decision is leftist woke cultists losing their minds about the potential of Elon Musk becoming their boss. Enjoy!
