What should we expect from the Disinformation Governance Board?
Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter (which is not complete, by the way) has sparked a response from the Biden Administration in the form of the Department of Homeland Security’s new Disinformation Governance Board led by one Nina Jankowicz who herself has disseminated disinformation by claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation.
Immediately, this move was hailed as unconstitutional and compared to Orwell’s Ministry of Truth in the novel 1984. Jankowicz is being scrutinized and has been dubbed “Big Sister”. All of this is true and all of this is obvious. What isn’t obvious to me is what the Biden Admin and the Democrats and the Left are thinking. What is the play here?
I mean, what is this new agency going to do, exactly? I know what we all fear it will do. We fear it will become the thought police and we will have official agents of violence knocking down our doors and beating in our heads because we dared to challenge the narrative with “misinformation, disinformation, or malinformation”.
This is completely valid. This is the very reason that it should and will be immediately challenged and hopefully destroyed never to rear its ugly head. That being said, is our worst fears really what they had in mind? I wouldn’t put it past them to be okay with that scenario and even to have it as a long term goal, but I can’t see it being the game plan right off the bat.
So then is this a government run fact checking organization? They’re just going to monitor social media and try to craft the narrative by claiming everything is mostly false? Like anyone is going to take what they have to say at face value. From the very beginning they have no credibility.
It seems like such a dumb move. It’s sad and weak and way overboard for the situation. Would they have done this had Elon announced a new social media platform to rival twitter instead of just purchasing it outright? This deserves nothing but mockery leading up to it’s destruction. And let’s be clear, it must be destroyed.
If we only mock this abomination, it will fester and grow and begin to craft narratives and advance legislation and take power. Then the day will come when an entire generation reaches maturity only ever knowing a world where the Disinformation Governance Board exists and thrives and our worst fears will be realized.
For the sake of fairness, however, let’s see what they say their plan is.
Oh don’t worry everyone. The Board was established to protect speech and all that. Everything’s good. We’re all fine.
Now that we’ve cleared that up, I’ve gotta go. Somebody’s knocking down my door.
